tiny.zurich

Zurich and its neighbouring municipalities, drawn as one continuous isometric pixel-art map: from Kloten airport to Thalwil, from Dietikon to the Greifensee, about 315 km². Zoom from the whole metro area down to single houses.

How it was made

The city was rendered from a 3D model, looking north-east at 45°, in 767 shots. About 600 of them were redrawn as pixel art by an image model, and checked by hand and by machine against swisstopo's water and building data. A smaller open image model (Qwen-Image) was then fine-tuned on those drawings and painted the whole map, about 11,900 tiles of 512 px, so that every tile agrees with its neighbours. Lakes were evened out by hand, block seams levelled, and the trams, trains, boats and planes were placed one by one. The full story →
